Exploring Edinburgh

Lately I am getting more and more interested in seeing and exploring new places. 

One of the top destinations on my bucket list was Scotland's capital Edinburgh.
I've always wanted to check it out and since I was staying with my sister Sabrina in Glasgow over the holidays now was the best opportunity.

With Edinburgh just about one and half hours away, we hopped on the bus and were ready to explore the city.

Thankfully it wasn't raining but actually quite warm (in Scottish terms).

Sadly I didn't see that much of Scotland's countryside this time - because I instantly fell asleep when the bus started to drive on the motorway - and when I opened my eyes again we just arrived at Edinburgh's beautiful East End.

Off the bus and into the busy city center. 

It's actually not that busy when you compare it to London or even Glasgow but it still managed to feel packed.

You can see a sneaky little bit from the beautiful Old Town. Edinburgh is split into two main areas, the city centre and the Old Town. 

The view is amazing (walking uphill to the older part of the city is not) and we decided to check out the castle first. The 'Castle Rock' is a thousands of years old hill and an inactive volcano (thankfully).

After our little shoot at the castle we walked to 'Greyfriar's Kirkyard', a graveyard where J. K. Rowling apparently got her inspiration for the Harry Potter series.
I absolutely love the graveyards in the UK. I'm not a person that loves scary things but in my opinion it's actually quite emotional and somehow historical when you see some of the dates when the people were born and then died. 

Apparently Rowling chose a very well-known name from one of the graveyard corners...

Next, we walked to the city's palace and then up 'Calton Hill' to enjoy Edinburgh's best view.

I can tell you the view and the air up there is incredible! 

Edinburgh is an amazing city in my opinion. I love everthing about it!
